Over the last 5-10 years the healthcare system has begun reformation to increase safety, efficiency, cost reduction, increasing continuum of care, and increases in information technology (IT). There are many influences that are creating this need for change including laws, regulations, and the consumers of the healthcare system. The consumer is beginning to take charge of their health and become an advocate of their healthcare needs and plans of action. This transformation has created a greater need for the healthcare system to increase the use of health management information system (HMIS). HMIS is meant to help all departments within a healthcare organization, such as a hospital, to communicate easier creating a better care experience†¦show more content†¦Challenges Associated with each Initiative Even the most well planned out strategy will have challenges that are associated with them. This statement is true for each initiative occurring in the healthcare system. One of the problems faced when changing a system or adding to a system is resistance by the end-users. This resistance can come from any level, including the leadership. This creates a need to make the leadership understand the reasons for the change and allow them to become a part of the change, allowing them to buy-in. This buy-in from leadership will help the employees to understand the reasons for the change. This will help to reduce resistance, but not completely get rid of it. This challenge will be seen by each of these initiatives; however, each of the initiatives will come with their own challenges. One way to overcome the challenge of resistance is to get the buy-in from the leadership positions. First, the organization must have a Chief Information Officer (CIO) that has built up three important traits trustworthiness, effective communication, and be inspirational (Tan Payton, 2010). With these traits the CIO can allow the leadership team to understand the change, know why they are occurring, and finally feel like they are part of the solution. Eventually, these damaged cells spread into neighboring cells of other tissues and multiply all over the body. However, just a tiny portion of cancer is inherited: a mutation carried in reproductive cells, passed on from one generation to the next, and present in cells throughout the body. Most cancers come from random mutations that develop in body cells during one’s lifetime – either as a mistake when cells are going through cell division or in response to injuries from environmental agents such as radiation or chemicals. Cancer usually arises in a single cell. The cell’s progress from normal to malignant to metastatic appears to follow a series of distinct steps, each one controlled by a different gene or set of genes. Several types of genes have been implicated. Oncogenes normally encourage cell growth; when mutated or overexpressed, they can flood cells with signals to keep on dividing. Tumor-suppressor genes normally restrain cell growth; when missing or inactivated by a mutation, they allow cells to grow and divide uncontrollably. (The inherited genes that predispose for breast and ovarian cancer, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, retinoblastoma, Wilms’ tumor, and familial adenomatous polyposis are malfunctioning tumor-suppressor genes.) It often slips through our fingers as we search for its true meaning; it dances just out of our control as we soldier on— attempting to reach a sort of legendary status with the short amount of time we’re allotted. As time slowly ticks away, every single one of us eventually arrives at a choice: to live life with a purpose, or simply run along with the rat race. Every single one of us has a different â€Å"third thing†Ã¢â‚¬â€a concept or goal worth striving for an entire lifetime. All that matters, however, is how each of us chooses to fulfill that goal. For a long time, I had a difficult time understanding the relationship between dreaming and living. To me, they seemed to be two completely different things: the soft and hopeful quality of dreams existed only in my mind, crushed out of reality by the stark austerity of living. I loved the idea of learning something I didn’t know before, because it provided me with experiences—experiences that would become a part of my dreams and my identity. To me, true discovery is recognition. Not just simply learning about a new idea, but realizing the true profundity behind the familiar. It’s not just about discovering revolutionary knowledge and research—although that in itself is very important—but about understanding the real significance in everyday things: the simple but beautiful symmetry of a flower, or the emotion behind a friend’s smile. For me, discovering the beauty and emotion behind the seemingly ordinary details of life is what makes living so interesting— because after all, who wouldn’t want to see life as more beautiful? Forgive me as I induce a tired cliche, but I am about to close one chapter of my life to begin another. I want opportunities to achieve my goals in life, an education for my future career, and of course, an unforgettable college experience. But most of all, I want to keep on discovering.
